Top 5 players that need to put their act together at Manchester United

I cannot stress it enough when I say, Manchester United players really need to up their game. So far, Manchester United has been utterly terrible this season. Their creativeness seems to be dying and cutting Manchester United’s once impregnable defense seems to be like walk in the park these days.

Apart from a couple of impressive performances, Manchester United has been unable to record good results. During the past few weeks, Manchester United’s form has seen a new low. Even the proud boss of Old Trafford admits Manchester United was dominated by Everton, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur during the past couple of weeks.

So, who should be blamed for Manchester United’s lack lustrous performances? Well, I’d say each player should be given a daily dose of the infamous ‘hairdryer treatment’, but here is a list of Top 5 players that need to put their act together at Manchester United.

5 – Michael Carrick

Michael Carrick is an enigma. The English veteran has been in Manchester United’s squad for a very long time, in spite of long letters from fans begging Sir Alex Ferguson to lose him.

Personally, I still can’t understand why Sir Alex Ferguson has kept Michael Carrick at Manchester United, but in spite of all the complains against Michael Carrick, the England international has the uncanny habit of becoming a world class talent in the second half of the season.

This is not some once in lifetime phenomena. Michael Carrick actually turns into beast after January. Now, if only he could replicate or at least balance his form throughout the season.

4 – Robin van Persie

Let’s face it! Robin van Persie hasn’t given Manchester United the start we all were hoping for. The former Arsenal ace has scored five goals in six games for Manchester United, thanks to poor hat-trick against Southampton.

The Flying Dutchman needs pick up pace, especially now that his honeymoon phase at Old Trafford is over. Perhaps, Wayne Rooney’s return will spark life into Robin van Persie.

3 – Ryan Giggs

Nearing 39, Ryan Giggs is still one heck of a player. But, the Welshman is liability if Sir Alex Ferguson wants to play him for the full 90 minutes or features him in the heart of midfield. That is essence is what has been going wrong at Manchester United.

Unlike other legends in football, Ryan Giggs transition to become a midfielder from a winger is still incomplete. It would be wise for Ryan Giggs to play to his strengths. Play on the wing and attack till your last breath – and the return to the bench… please!

2 – Nani

Nani is in a lot of trouble. There was a time when the Portuguese winger was showing signs of filling the void left behind by Cristiano Ronaldo, but lately Nani has been creating voids on the field rather than filling them in.

Sir Alex Ferguson was actually thinking about replacing the 25-year-old winger during the summer transfer window, but no player wanted to afford Nani’s salary or pay high transfer fees for him.

Nani’s form has experienced a sudden dip since last season. The Portuguese really needs to find back his goal-scoring form and perhaps assist him teammates in scoring goals as well.

1 – The Defense

It is needless for me to remind how poor Manchester United’s defense has been this season. The Red Devils have actually become a laughing stock when it comes to defense. Nine goals in six games and an embarrassing home defeat does that to a club.

Admittedly, Manchester United is facing an injury crisis in their defensive department with injuries to Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Nemanja Vidic, but still even with the presence of a full squad Manchester United’s defensive department has committed numerous blunders.

Jonny Evans and Rio Ferdinand are attempting, most failing, to hold back on goals. Moreover, consistent defensive errors from Rafael and Patrice Evra are no longer a secret. Therefore, Sir Alex Ferguson understands that he has a massive problem on his hands.
